The 2024 Denver Alumnae Scholarship Application is open!

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., is a public service organization founded in 1913, at Howard University by 22 dynamic college-educated women. Delta Sigma Theta’s 5-Point Program Thrust provides the structure which serves the community. The 5-Point Program Thrusts are – Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement.

Since 1939, the Denver Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., has awarded in excess of $700,000.00 in collegiate scholarships to deserving African American women. We have been able to support so many young women seeking post-secondary credentials because of people like you. Our scholarship awards continue the legacy of our Founders in supporting African American women in their pursuit of a college education. Denver Alumnae Scholarship awards range from a renewable $6,000 (awarded $1,500 per year over 4 years) to one-time $1,500.00 scholarships. Scholarships are awarded to students who seek to attend a 4-year university as well as community colleges as well as trade schools. Many of our scholarships are named in memory of some of our most influential members and pillars in the Denver Community.

  • Dr. Sharon Brown-Bailey Memorial Scholarship
    • DPS graduate and former Board member of the Denver Public Schools
  • Irma Hudson Memorial Scholarship
    • Founder, Shulé Saturday School
  • Gloria Travis Tanner Certificate/Technical/Associate Degree Scholarship
    • First African American woman to serve as a Colorado State Senator
  • Ruby Kirk Gray Memorial Scholarship
    • Founder, Caldwell-Kirk Mortuary

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be a Black/African American female;
  • Be a resident of the Denver metropolitan area;
  • Be a high school graduate, graduating senior from high school, or have earned a GED;
  • Have applied to an accredited 2 or 4-year college/university, or technical school;
  • Earned a minimum grade point average of:
    • 3.00 on a 4.00 scale for Denver Alumnae Chapter scholarships
    • 2.50 on a 4.0 scale for Gloria Travis Tanner and Betty Neal scholarships
  • Not be a daughter of a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; and
  • The completed applications are due by the stated deadline.

OLETA L. CRAIN SCHOLARSHIP

In honor of Ms. Oleta Crain’s memory, this scholarship is established for young women who aspire to attend a Historically Black College and University (HBCU). Recipients of this scholarship will receive annual contributions for 4 years. To request criteria for this scholarship send an email to cjef.info@gmail.com.
